Friends & Neighbors
Dear Friends,
As a friend or neighbor of a family battling pediatric cancer, we know how caring and how committed you are, trying to find ways to help the family manage through this difficult time. Visiting this website is a wonderful first step! One thing that’s often very difficult is meeting the differing needs of the other children in the family – the brothers and sisters of the child with cancer. SuperSibs! recognizes this need, and we have filled this section of our website with resources for you – the special friends and neighbors of SuperSibs! children and teens. You can make a tremendous difference in the lives of these vulnerable “shadow survivors”.
In these links, you’ll find ideas, tips, conversation starters, and support methods for your friend/neighbor “super siblings” as they manage through their own unique cancer journey. Cancer is frightening and unpredictable… yet your understanding and active support can help siblings “redefine the cancer experience” – finding ways to fully express themselves, share hope, laughter, find strength and courage – thrive long into the future.
When a child is diagnosed with cancer, EVERYONE in the family needs healing. At SuperSibs!, our goal is to do all we can to support the often forgotten siblings – so they can heal, emotionally, as well. Please use our website to help you find ways to be special in the lives of siblings of children with cancer.
With hugs and hope,
Your friends at SuperSibs!
"When my friend's son needed a transplant, one thing I could do to help was invite her other son to stay at our house during the most difficult days. Rather than being frightened by hospital unknowns, we made sure this sweet little boy felt loved and happy at our home. That whole week, we called his parents to sing to him on the phone, read to him and express their love from the hospital. That experience brought SuperSib Spencer and me so close... I asked him if I could be his Godmother... and he said yes!"
